Based on the success of the past two years, Tropika Island of Treasure Season 3 called for an unforgettable journey of fame and fun.
Tropika welcomed seven celebrities and seven fans to compete in season 3 for the grand prize of R1 million. The exotic island of Phuket played host to this year’s show with the number of contestants dropping from 20 to 14 – allowing viewers the opportunity to really get to know their favourite contestants.
Each day, teams participated in a range of exciting, whacky, random and fun-filled challenges under the hot Thai sun. At the end of each day, the winner was granted the power of sending a contestant home. The anticipation had thousands of South African viewers sitting on the edge of their seats.
2010’s line-up of celebrities included a mix of music, comedy, TV and radio personalities from hiphop star JR, diva and TV host Bonang Matheba, beauty queen Tatum Keshwar, funnyman Loyiso Gola, (in)famous drama queen Khanyi Mbau, actress Dionne Song, who portrayed Beyoncé in the sitcom The Coconuts, to new pop-rock sensation, Snotkop.
Fan contestants included: Allan Whitaker, Andile Mkhwanazi, Cheralee Dearlove, Clayton Morar, Latoya Ragebult, Shandir Krishna and Thandi Steenkamp.
Tropika Island of Treasure Season 3 launched on 1 August 2010 and resulted in hundreds of South Africans rushing into store to get their hands on their favourite flavour. Everybody wanted in on the super fun action.
Hiphop star JR was named the winner of season 3 and walked away with R1 million after becoming the crowd favourite and avoiding elimination each week.
